About Rhoda Taylor
Rhoda Taylor, B.A., M.P.H., I.B.C.L.C.
In the mid ’80s in a small town in British Columbia, a group of La Leche League Leaders met to discuss their concerns regarding breastfeeding support in their community. Their particular focus was on increasing knowledge and expertise to assist in complicated breastfeeding challenges. Several complex cases had been referred to the LLLeaders by the medical community as the best and most reliable knowledge source. It was decided that ‘If we are the best that is available we had better learn how to be better’ and that one of the Leaders should pursue the new credential of International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). With the considerable support of the others, Rhoda wrote the third IBLC exam in 1987 and has recertified both by education and exam ever since. She has been active in a variety of public health and policy roles as well as being on the boards of the BC Lactation Consultants Association, Canadian Lactation Consultant Association and the International Lactation Consultants Association.
